Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State said that his recent trip to China was to finalise plans on the state’s rail projects, adding that he also discussed “the Fourth Mainland Bridge” project, “which will begin shortly.”
In a statement he signed, Sanwo-Olu expressed excitement that the Red Line Rail project covering Agbado to Otto would be unveiled in a few weeks.
He noted that during a meeting with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation in Beijing, China, his government reiterated its commitment to completing the second phase of the Blue Line rail project, noting that his trip to China was to “finalise our plans for an integrated system that will work for Lagosians.”
Mr. Sanwo-Olu said, “Exciting times for Lagos. I am delighted to announce that the Red Line Rail project covering Agbado to Otto is ready for inauguration. With its inauguration just weeks away, we are set to provide more relief for commuters.
“This significant milestone is a testament to our commitment to enhancing transportation for millions of Lagos residents.
“During a productive meeting with the China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation in Beijing, we reiterated our dedication to completing the Blue Line Rail project’s second phase. This trip was important to meet with the leadership and finalise our plans for an integrated system that will work for Lagosians as we commit them to a long-term partnership.”
The Governor expressed his government’s gratitude to the CCECC and other partners for their role “in realising this transformative project,” adding that at the meeting with the CCECC leadership, “We also had discussions pertaining to the Fourth Mainland Bridge and it is certain that this project will begin shortly.”
Diplomat Nigeria reported that Mr. Sanwo-Olu promised that the construction of the Fourth Mainland Bridge would begin by the end of the first quarter of this year.
“As we eagerly await the official inauguration (of the Red Line rail), I’m pleased to share that HE President Bola Tinubu has agreed to grace the occasion heralding the launch of the Red Line Rail for commercial operations,” he said.
