World Alarmed over Food Threat in Sudan

Families in Sudan’s conflict zones could experience famine-like hunger by next summer, the United Nations has warned, while some in the war-ravaged capital are surviving on a single, meagre daily meal.

Some 30 million people, almost two-thirds of the population, need assistance in Sudan according to the UN, double the number before fighting broke out between the army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in mid-April.

Coup: ECOWAS Suspends Niger Republic until….

The Commission of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS/CEDEAO, has officially suspended the Republic of Niger by all sub-regional bodies, until constitutional order is restored in the country.

This is contained in a statement by the regional organization, following the decisions taken at the summit of heads of state and government held on Sunday in Abuja.

Niger Coup Leaders Agree to Transition Terms

Niger’s ruling military has agreed to terms and conditions of a transition back to civilian rule, and will present the plan to a regional bloc, the chief diplomat from mediator Togo announced.

Speaking on Niger’s national television, Togo Foreign Minister Robert Dussey said he had reached an agreement “on the content and timing of the transition” with Niger’s junta-appointed prime minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine and foreign minister Bakary Yaou Sangare.

The military leaders of Burkina Faso and Niger said Saturday they would quit the G5 anti-jihadist force in Africa’s Sahel region, the latest blow to the fight against insurgents in one of the world’s most troubled zones.
