Nigeria and Cameroon have in a bilateral meeting agreed to strengthen trans-border trade relations.
The Governor of Borno State and the Far Northern region of Cameroon, under the authority of both governments, convened in the border community of Banki for discussions aimed at enhancing business activities along their borders.
At a closed-door meeting, Governor Zulum spoke to journalists, highlighting the declining transborder business activities between the two countries.
Zulum expressed the need to revitalise economic interactions after groundbreaking of a cattle international market, stressing the need to address challenges in transporting goods between Cameroon and Nigeria.
The Governor said that the Borno State Ministry of Commerce, Trade, and Industry would collaborate with the regional council of Cameroon to address emerging issues, while the upper-level meeting involving the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Federal Ministry of Internal Affairs of Cameroon, the governments of Borno State and that of the Far Northern region of Cameroon were scheduled to discuss modalities for enhancing transborder trade.
Governor Mijinyawa Bakari of the Far Northern region of Cameroon echoed the determination of both countries to explore new business opportunities.
He emphasised the significance of the cattle international market, marking its groundbreaking is a pivotal step in revitalizing commerce between Nigeria and Cameroon. VON
