ECOWAS Lauds Nigeria, Sierra Leone, Liberia for Peaceful Elections

The Economic Commission of West African States, ECOWAS, has commended the peaceful resolution of the disputes of the February general elections in Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Liberia.

This is contained in a communiqué read by Dr Omar Touray, ECOWAS Commission President, at the end of the 64th session of the ECOWAS Heads of State and Government on Sunday in Abuja.

Coup Attempt: Ex-Sierra Leone President, Ernest Koroma Questioned by Police

FORMER Sierra Leone President Ernest Bai Koroma has been questioned at police headquarters in the capital, Freetown, over a failed coup attempt.

Mr Koroma, who governed the country for just over 10 years, arrived at around 10:00 local time at the criminal investigations department under a heavy police and military escort.

Niger Military Refuses to Free Ex-leader Mohamed Bazoum

Niger’s military leader has refused to release the country’s deposed president in exchange for sanctions being lifted.

Ecowas – an alliance of West African countries – made the offer after a summit on Sunday.

It has demanded the release of Mohamed Bazoum several times since he was put under house arrest in late July.
