…Embassy urged to prioritize workers’ welfare
The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, Comrade Joe Ajaero says the congress will protect workers in the Embassy of Republic of Cuba in Nigeria and other organizations from intimidation and discrimination in the course of carrying out their duties.
The President of the NLC stated this when the delegation from Cuba Embassy visited him at the Labour House, Abuja.
Comrade Joe Ajaero called for healthy work environment for workers and good welfare without discrimination.
NLC President called for international support for Cuba against the United States economic blockade.
Cuba is a Latin American country that has been subjected to restrictions on its economic activities by the U.S.
Responding, Cuban Ambassador to Nigeria, Miriam Morales said Cuba valued the contribution of Labour unions to the Nigerian economy and would strengthen the cooperation with the trade unions in the Country.
” Mr President, this is my home and I am with my people” Ambassador Miriam Morales remarked.
She said the President of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez appreciated the efforts of the Nigeria Labour Congress and other trade unions in the country for their contribution to the society.
Delivering the speech of President Miguel Bermudez, by Cuba Third Secretary, Ana Gómez Pavot, President Bermudez said citizens, organizations and individuals have roles to play towards achieving a productive engagement with trade unions.
President Bermudez urged Nigeria Labour Congress to further strengthen links that would promote brotherhood and cooperation with the Republic of Cuba Labour movement for economic development.
Highlight of the event was the conferment of ”Friendship Medal’ on the President of Nigeria Labour Congress, Comrade Joe Ajaero by President Miguel Bermudez.
The Friendship Medal (la Medalla de la Amistad) is conferred by the Council of State of Cuba on foreigners for their solidarity with the Cuban Revolution, or who have contributed to peace and the progress of humankind.
